The Sumter Gambit

By dave

Clarity from Chaos guest Mr. Robert Spencer, is the director of Jihad Watch and author of The Sumter Gambit: How the Left Is Trying to Foment a Civil War

What is the Sumter Gambit? It’s the concerted effort by the Left to push the most extreme policies and ideologies into American public life, while simultaneously labeling any opposition to their overreach as treason.

While this strategy has been developed for decades, only since the Trump years has it become their central organizing principle and, indeed, the only governing strategy of the Democratic party. Critical Race Theory in schools, extreme gun control and abortion laws, Covid lockdowns and mandates–and all that is just the beginning.

The purpose of it all is to push non-Leftist Americans into an impossible corner–where they are forced to choose between giving up their liberty and their most dearly-held principles; going to jail; or fighting back. When the last becomes the only choice, the Left plans to unleash the entire might of the Military-Industrial Complex to defeat and destroy any vestiges of dissent. They’ll have to do it, they’ll say, to protect us from an “insurrection.”

At that point, we will have the Civil War that they have wanted, and planned for, since at least the 1960s.

The Sumter Gambit is a brisk primer on the primary differences between the two camps in America today, and the ways in which Americans can and must act now to preserve our nation. We must strengthen the country against its internal enemies who want to silence their opposition and impose upon us a radical Leftist ideology that is in the process of transforming America into a land no one would ever dream of calling the Land of the Free or the Home of the Brave.

There is no doubt that America is suffering from grave crises today. Here the noted political analyst, Islam expert, and historian Robert Spencer shows just how severe those crises are–and points the way back from the brink of civil war to political, societal, and cultural sanity.

The Rise of Antitrust Sentiment in Congress..

By dave

Clarity from Chaos guest: Mr. Robert H. Bork Jr. appearing on behalf of his father, with an updated version of The Antitrust Paradox By Judge Robert H. Bork. Bork Jr., currently serves as the President of the Antitrust Education Project.

The Dangers of Conservative ‘Antitrust Revival’

Since it first appeared in 1978, this seminal work by one of the foremost American legal minds of our age has dramatically changed the way the courts view government’s role in private affairs. Now reissued with a new introduction and foreword, this classic shows how antitrust suits adversely affect the consumer by encouraging a costly form of protection for inefficient and uncompetitive small businesses. Robert Bork’s view of antitrust law has had a profound impact on how the law has been both interpreted and applied. Lucid, highly readable, and full of rich social and political implications, The Antitrust Paradox illustrates how the purpose and integrity of law can be subverted by those who do not understand the reality law addresses or who seek to make it serve unintended political and social ends. It’s republication by his son comes at a critical moment when politicians on both the left and right want to weaponize antitrust law. Their proposals will destroy capitalism and innovation.

Robert H. Bork, Jr., heads the Bork Group, a 18-year-old virtual crisis, litigation, and public affairs agency, which draws from the best, most-experienced, independent communications talent. Mr. Bork has designed strategies for clients in many high-profile cases and policy battles. His experience includes directing the public affairs strategy in critical issues for Eli Lilly, Google, AT&T, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform, to name just a few. He began his career as a journalist as a police reporter before moving to business and economics. As a journalist, he covered international economics at U.S. News and World Report, was managing editor of the quarterly journal Regulation, and worked as a reporter at Forbes, The Detroit Free Press, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Miami Herald. Mr. Bork made the switch to advocacy in 1987 working at the Heritage Foundation, on Capitol Hill as an aide to U.S. Sen. Gordon Humphrey (R-NH), and as special assistant for U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills. Throughout his career, Mr. Bork has specialized in the development and implementation of communication strategies in crises, litigation, and legal policy. In his many years of experience managing the public environment surrounding high-profile matters, he has worked directly with CEOs, general counsel, and communications executives of major U.S. and international corporations. Mr. Bork’s range of experience includes antitrust, product liability, intellectual property, securities fraud, economic espionage, white-collar crime, mergers and acquisitions, First Amendment and employment discrimination. His work has been on behalf of clients ranging from the automobile industry to pharmaceuticals, computers, software, chemicals, railroads, franchising, telecommunications, insurance, health-care, and former manufacturers of lead pigment. In every matter he has worked directly with the client’s legal counsel. Mr. Bork graduated from Carleton College with a degree in American history. He was a Herbert J. Davenport Fellow in Business and Economic Journalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Levi’s Unbuttoned: The Woke Mob Took My Job but Gave Me My Voice

By dave

Clarity from Chaos guest Ms. Jennifer Sey, discusses her battle with the current cancel culture and the corporate woke mob in her new book Levi’s Unbuttoned: The Woke Mob Took My Job But Gave Me My Voice

Sey began working at Levi Strauss & Co. in 1999, rising to Chief Marketing Officer and then Global Brand President. Sey was on track to become the first woman CEO of Levi Strauss & Co. As the President of the Levi’s brand, she was widely celebrated as a versatile and inspirational leader who had helped save the iconic brand from bankruptcy. Formerly a self-described “left of left of center” progressive, she was beloved as the embodiment of the company’s “profits through principles” ethos.

But everything changed when Sey publicly opposed the closure of San Francisco’s public schools at the height of the pandemic. In response to her ‘wrong-think,’ management gave her a choice: shut up or leave. She decided that defending at-risk children was more important than the job that she loved, and so she resigned. After more than two decades at the company, she gave up her professional future to retain her voice.

In Levi’s Unbuttoned, Sey recounts her remarkable journey from U.S. National Gymnastics champion through her rise the corporate ladder at Levi’s. As the highest profile executive to fall victim to the cancel culture engulfing America, her story is an inspiration for all those who, in these difficult times, feel pressured to remain silent on their most fundamental beliefs.

The more Americans who stand up to “woke-ism,” the better chance we have at creating a truly equitable and inclusive society. Principles and integrity matter. Ultimately, they matter more than anything else.

Ms. Sey, author of Levi’s Unbuttoned: The Woke Mob Took My Job But Gave Me My Voice, is an American author, filmmaker, business executive and retired artistic gymnast. She was the 1986 USA Gymnastics National Champion, and a 7-time member of the U.S. Women’s National Team. Her first memoir, “Chalked Up,” was released in 2008 and detailed the coaching cruelty inflicted on children in the sport of gymnastics. Sey also produced the 2020 Emmy award-winning documentary film, “Athlete A,” which connected the crimes of Larry Nassar to broader abuses in the Olympic movement.

Rediscovering the American Covenant: Roadmap to Restore America

By dave

One cannot understand the full intent behind the American founding unless they understand the biblical principles that informed it…

Clarity from Chaos guest: Mr. Mark Burrell, author of Rediscovering the American Covenant: Roadmap to Restore America

America is in decline. What is the cause, and what must be done to re-establish our founding principles? Nothing in print today clearly answers these questions from a biblical standpoint. Until now.

Mark Burrell’s Rediscovering the American Covenant provides fresh light on biblical principles for civil government and the citizenship duty all Christians have in the communities in which they live. These principles are extracted empirically from the Bible, showing how they informed the actions of the founders in 1776, thus establishing our national covenant. The simple, yet critical blueprint they followed is described—the same blueprint needed today to restore America’s founding principles. The author concludes with a call to action for Christians and the church, to rediscover the American covenant and fulfill the citizenship duty we have as Christians.

A roadmap makes this content actionable. All the opposing arguments aimed to dimmish America are addressed, some in fresh ways. Given the breadth of the material, full 2-page illustrations are used to set the tone for each chapter. Additional illustrations draw the reader in and help connect concepts to the active citizenship duty Christians have. A 2-page theological monograph is also included, incorporating key governing principles.

The aim of this book is to present a thorough biblical argument for:

1. Active citizenship as a vital part of the Christian faith (including sharing the Gospel).

2. How this duty informed the actions of the founders as they codified and declared our American national covenant.

3. Steps for Christians to re-engage politically, to restore their local community and America to a God honoring nation.

PLUG BOOK: Rediscovering the American Covenant: Roadmap to Restore America

Mr. Mark Burrell, author of Rediscovering the American Covenant: Roadmap to Restore America, is originally from Pennsylvania and grew up in the Episcopal Church where he accepted Christ as a teenager. He attended Penn State University and met his wife, Charlene, in 1980. They married in 1983 and moved to northeast Pennsylvania a year later where Mark began his career in the private sector. While living there they helped start several independent Bible churches that continue today.

In 1987 Mark developed a mentoring relationship with an experienced pastor and spent several years studying Systematic Theology. He began a teaching ministry in the early 1990’s covering a variety of topics, and in the late 90’s became interested in Biblical aspects of the American founding.

Classified: The Untold Story of Racial Classification in America

By dave

A call for the separation of race and state, backed by a deep dive into the surreal world of racial classification in America…

Clarity from Chaos guest: David E. Bernstein, author of Classified: The Untold Story of Racial Classification in America

Americans are understandably squeamish about official racial and ethnic classifications. Nevertheless, they are ubiquitous in American life. Applying for a job, mortgage, university admission, citizenship, government contracts, and much more involves checking a box stating whether one is Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, or Native American.

While reviewing the surprising history of American racial classifications, Classified raises questions about the classifications’ coherence, logic, and fairness; for example:

• Should Pakistani, Chinese, and Filipino Americans be in the same category despite their obvious differences in culture, appearance, religion, and more?

• Why does the government not allow Americans to classify themselves as bi- or multi-racial?

• How did the government decide that a dark-complexioned, burka-wearing Muslim Yemini should be classified as generically white, but a blond-haired, blue-eyed immigrant from Spain should be classified as Hispanic and treated as a member of a minority group?

• Why does the government require biomedical researchers to classify study participants by the official racial categories, when the classifications have no scientific basis?

In an increasingly diverse society with high rates of intergroup marriage, the American system of racial classification is getting even more arbitrary and absurd. With rising ethno-nationalism threatening democracy around the world, it’s also dangerous. Classified argues that the time has come to consider abolishing official racial classification and replace it with the separation of race and state.

David E. Bernstein holds a University Professorship chair at the Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University, where he has been teaching since 1995. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Michigan, Georgetown University, William & Mary, Brooklyn Law School, and the University of Turin.

Known as a fearless contrarian, Professor Bernstein often challenges the conventional wisdom with prodigious research and sharp, original analysis. His book Rehabilitating Lochner was praised across the political spectrum as “intellectual history in its highest form,” a “fresh perspective and a cogent analysis,” “delightful and informative,” “sharp and iconoclastic,” “well-written and destined to be influential,” and “a terrific work of historical revisionism.” Professor Bernstein blogs at the Volokh Conspiracy (the leading law professor blog) and at Instapundit.com. Professor Bernstein is a graduate of the Yale Law School, where he was senior editor of the Yale Law Journal and a John M. Olin Fellow in Law, Economics, and Public Policy.

Professor Bernstein is married and has three children of mixed Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and Spanish-Jewish origin. He prefers not to classify them.
